Property History

The Strone was built in 1832 and was originally a crofters cottage changing to house one of the manors gamekeepers later in the 19th century.  In the 1960s a stone extension was added to the original cottage which more than doubled the size of the property.  Its transformation into a vacation rental took place in 2013 with a strict mandate from the architect to maintain as many of the properties original features as possible.

Today The Strone still retains this original features and more.  The cottage is lovingly cared for by Colette and her dedicated team of cleaners and maintenance staff.

About Luss

Development in the 18th and 19th Centuries

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Luss underwent significant development. Many of the cottages that distinguish Luss were originally erected to house workers in the cotton mill and slate quarries of the 18th and 19th centuries. The homes have been fully restored, and Luss has been designated a "Conservation Village."

Clan Influence

The village's history is also shaped by the influence of Scottish clans, particularly the Colquhouns. The Colquhoun clan, associated with the nearby Rossdhu Castle, played a significant role in the development of the village. Their influence is evident in the architecture and layout of Luss, reflecting the clan's prominence in the area.

Modern Significance

Today, Luss is celebrated for its well-preserved 19th-century cottages and its status as a conservation village. The village's rich history, combined with its scenic beauty, makes it a popular destination for visitors exploring the Loch Lomond area.
